Ratiopharm Ulm, fourth in the main round, lost its lead in the last seconds and was eliminated in the quarter-finals.
Ulm and Würzburg fought a close duel

The reigning basketball champions ratiopharm Ulm have bowed out of the Bundesliga play-offs early, while main round winners Bayern Munich remain on course for the title. In the fourth game of the quarter-final series against Würzburg Baskets, Ulm suffered a decisive defeat on Friday evening with a score of 72:75 (31:36). Würzburg secured its place in the semi-finals for the second time in the club’s history with a 3:1 win in the best-of-five series. There they will face title favorite Bayern.

The Munich team was the last team to advance to the semifinals with a 76:69 (40:34) win over the MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg. Bayern guard Carsen Edwards was the best scorer of the game with 22 points. After losing the first play-off game of the season, Bayern deservedly secured their place in the next round with a 3:1 win.
In Würzburg, both teams had previously fought an emotional duel on equal terms in front of 3,140 spectators until the final whistle. The lead changed again and again. Ulm went into the last five minutes with a six-point lead. But Würzburg turned the game around in the final seconds. The best scorer was Würzburg’s Zac Seljaas with 17 points.

In the other semi-final, eleven-time champions Alba Berlin will face FIBA Europe Cup champions Niners Chemnitz. The first games of the semi-finals will take place next Tuesday and Wednesday (May 28 and 29/Dyn). Three wins are again needed to reach the final.
