Básquet Girona will revolutionize the equipment of Puma

Básquet Girona will debut new kits next season, in its third year in a row in the ACB league. The stage with Nike closes and another opens with the hand of Puma, who had already set foot in the top men’s division of Spanish basketball two years ago, through Baskonia. The club will revolutionize the shirt with its own groundbreaking designs that until now could not be offered because the American multinational did not customize the proposals for each club. The red color will remain in the main kit, but it will be noticeably different from the current one.

Nike and Adidas are the two main sports retail brands and seem to focus more on elite football than on basketball leagues like the ACB, where the profits from selling merchandise are much higher. Nike only dressed Barça and Básquet Girona this season, while Adidas has only equipped Real Madrid and Breogán. The other firms in the league this year have been Mercury (Zaragosa), Spalding (Joventut and Gran Canaria), Pentex (Manresa), Vive (Granada), Austral (Tenerife), Geff (Obradoiro), Hummel (Andorra, Palència, UCAM and Bilbao), Joma (Unicaja) and Luanvi (Valencia).

With the agreement with Puma, which will be signed shortly, Básquet Girona wants to take a step forward in the design of the kits, which this season have been red, white and black. There was also a special Nike design to celebrate the club’s 10th anniversary that the players wore exclusively to coincide with Barça’s visit last April. The different detail was a golden band on the letters iio of the word Girona to also play with the number 10. Nike had accompanied the club from the beginning and, for example, the senior has always played in kits of this brand since the his debut in the 2017/18 season in the EBA league. Puma, for its part, is consolidating itself as one of the firms with the most projection in this field after returning in 2019 to sports sponsorships.

With this change Basketball Girona will wear Puma, the same brand that equips Girona FC from the 2019/20 campaign as part of an agreement as a strategic partner based on the link that unites the brand with the City Football Group. The German firm is one of the fastest growing in the world of sports retail. In the First Division of football, for example, Adidas is the brand that dresses the most clubs: Madrid, Osasuna, Celta and Granada. Puma has had three (Alabès, Girona and Valencia), the same as Nike (Atletic, Barcelona and Mallorca) and Castore (Athletic, Sevilla and Almería). Joma (Villa-real and Getafe); Hummel (Betis and Las Palmas), Macron (R. Societat and Cadiz), and Umbro (Rayo), are the other sportswear firms in the elite of Spanish football.

The kits change but the sponsor remains. Básquet Girona is transferred to Puma, but FIATC will remain the main sponsor on the shirt. The insurance company has collaborated with the club since the days in LEB Plata and took the step to become the reference sponsor with the jump to the ACB league.
