Rudy Gobert has once again been voted the NBA’s best defender. The Frenchman achieved a historical record.

Rudy Gobert of the Minnesota Timberwolves has been named the NBA’s best defender of the season, the North American Basketball League announced on Tuesday (local time). The French international won the election ahead of his compatriot and the best newcomer to the league, Victor Wembanyama (San Antonio Spurs) and Bam Adebayo (Miami Heat).

After 2018, 2019 and 2021, Gobert has won the award for the fourth time; only Dikembe Mutombo and Ben Wallace have achieved this in NBA history. “It’s an award of great teamwork. We all love winning individual awards, but you can’t do it alone,” said Gobert on US broadcaster TNT.

Gobert and the Timberwolves are currently dueling with the Denver Nuggets in the second round of the playoffs. Gobert missed the 106:80 win in the second game against the defending champions because of the birth of his son.
