Barça dominates OL in the Champions League final and achieves the double

Eight days after winning a 17th French championship title, the Lyonnaises dreamed of ending their season in apotheosis with a resounding D1 Arkema-Champions League double. To do this, it was necessary to tame Barça, the only team that has been able to steal two C1s from OL since 2016. Failing, the Spaniards, title holders, finally achieved the double (2-0).

In a San Mamés stadium won over to their cause, the Blaugranas were the most dominant in the first period even if they almost conceded the opener on a corner from the Rhodaniennes, involuntarily deflected onto the crossbar by Lucy Bronze (14th) .

A quarter of an hour later, the Fenottes were saved by Selma Bacha, clearing a ball on her line which had bounced off Lindsey Horan after being pushed back by Christiane Endler following an attempt by Patri Guijarro (28th). Before the break, Caroline Graham Hansen saw her shot graze the post after clearing Wendie Renard (45th).

Bonmati et Putellas assomment l’OL

Returning from the locker room, the players of Sonia Bompastor, announced on the Chelsea bench next season, attacked the second half with good intentions but it was Barça who opened the scoring thanks to Aintana Bonmati (63rd).

The 2023 Ballon d’Or came to conclude a sequence of 23 passes from the Catalans thanks to a shot blocked by a tackle from Vanessa Gilles (63rd) before Alexia Putellas folded this final in stoppage time, with a powerful shot under the helm of Christiane Endler (90+5). The French champions will still have to wait before regaining their European crown.
