Bailey’s Grand Slam leads Giants to Victory over Mets

Patrick Bailey hit a grand slam in the eighth inning to give the San Francisco Giants the lead, who needed a defensive gem from Matt Chapman to score an 8-7 victory over the New York Mets on Friday.

The Mets led 6-2 in the eighth inning, but the Giants responded with five runs, four of which came on Bailey’s hit. They added a run in their turn at bat in the ninth to come within three outs of victory with an 8-6 lead.

The Mets scored a run and Camilo Doval was able to strike out JD Martinez with the bases loaded.

Dovall found himself behind with three balls and none to Mark Vientos, but he was able to come back for a full count. Vientos hit a very weak grounder to third base that forced Chapman to recover the ball with his bare hands and then made a powerful throw to first for the last out of the match.

Jorge Soler and Mike Yastrzemski also homered for the Giants. San Francisco has now won seven of its last eight games.

Julien contributes to the Twins’ victory

Quebecer Édouard Julien had a hit and produced a run in three at-bats, helping the Minnesota Twins defeat the Texas Rangers 3-2.

Alex Kirilloff hit the game-winning homer in the fourth inning for the Twins, who retired 15 of the Rangers’ final 16 batters to win.

Carlos Correa, Christian Vazquez and Jose Miranda all had two hits in the victory. After a seven-game losing streak, the Twins have now won their last three games.

Corey Seager produced two runs with a homer in the first inning, but the Rangers did not add anything to the score thereafter.

Bailey Ober (5-2) signed the victory. He allowed two runs, four hits and three walks. In five innings of work, he struck out five batters.

For the Rangers, José Urena (1-4) allowed three runs and nine hits. The pitcher struck out six batters in five innings on the mound.
