Bad news for Timo Werner at Tottenham Hotspur

The 57-time national player Timo Werner is no longer available for the English first division football team Tottenham Hotspur this season due to an injury. The attacker has “a problem with his thigh muscles and will therefore be out for the rest of the season,” said team manager Ange Postecoglu in an interview with club TV. He won’t be back for the next three weeks.

The striker was only loaned out from RB Leipzig in January, but he had to be substituted injured in the north London derby against Arsenal FC (2:3) on Sunday. Werner is on loan to Spurs until the end of the season, who probably have a purchase option worth 17 million euros. It remains to be seen whether this will be pulled despite the injury.

In 14 competitive games so far, Werner has scored two goals and recorded three assists for the team led by ex-Bundesliga professional Heung-Min Son. At the beginning of April, Coach Postecoglu raved about the 28-year-old: “He was a great signing.”

This means that Werner’s hopes of a place in the national team’s squad for the home European Championships in the summer may finally be gone. He no longer played a role in national coach Julian Nagelsmann’s plans. He last played an international match in March 2023 in the 2-3 win against Belgium.
