The tennis player, only 30 years old, confirmed his goodbye in an emotional video on social networks, in which he assured that “I will finish my career at the end of this season.” (…). The turning point in Thiem’s career came on June 22, 2021. That day the tennis player broke his right wrist in the round of 16 of the Mallorca Championships against the Frenchman Adrian Mannarino. With a favorable score of 5-2, he immediately noticed the severity of the injury and decided to quit.
At that moment he was number 5 in the world – he reached number 3 in his best moment – but he spent many months off the court and since then he rediscovered the game that had led him to win, for example, el US Open 2020 or 17 titles on his record before the injury. In addition, he starred in important victories against the ‘Big Three’: five wins over Djokovic in 12 matches, 6 over Nadal in 16 matches and five over Federer in seven other matches.
