Three goals, all from former Leipzig player Lookman: Bayer Leverkusen lost goalless to Atalanta Bergamo in the Europa League final. The Werkself thus missed out on their second international title after the 1988 UEFA Cup.

The German football champions Bayer Leverkusen lost in the final of the Europa League against the Italian club Atalanta Bergamo – and thus missed out on the possible treble. The Werkself from the Rhineland suffered their first defeat in Dublin, Ireland, with a 0:3 (0:2) loss against Bergamo in the 52nd competitive match of the season. Bayer thus missed out on their second international title after winning the UEFA Cup in 1988.

Former Leipzig player Ademola Lookman scored all three goals for Atalanta (12th, 26th and 75th minute). It is the first international trophy for the club, which eliminated FC Liverpool under coach Jürgen Klopp on its way to the final. Bayer still has the chance to secure the double in the DFB Cup final against second division side 1. FC Kaiserslautern on Saturday.
