Antwon Stevenson has made a difficult decision to leave his new post at Northeast Guilford High School to instead become the head coach at Ragsdale High School. Stevenson, who is from High Point and still lives in the area, will have a significantly shorter drive between home and work at Ragsdale, he confirmed to HighSchoolOT.
Stevenson made waves in his nine seasons as Glenn High School’s head football coach. The Bobcats’ overall record was 58-44 during Stevenson’s time in charge. Glenn had a few standout seasons under Stevenson, including a 10-2 season in 2017 and nine-win seasons in 2019 and 2021. He had spent his entire 23-year coaching career at Glenn.
He accepted the job at Northeast Guilford in March. Back during his initial employment search, Ragsdale’s head coach position was not open. On April 17, previous Ragsdale head coach Johnny Boykin was confirmed as the next head coach at Clinton High School, his alma mater.
Northeast Guilford will now re-open its search. The Rams improved each year under their previous head coach Mark Raynor. Last season, Northeast finished with a 7-4 overall record and made it to the N.C. High School Athletic Association’s 3A West playoffs. They fell on the road at West Charlotte in the first round.
Stevenson is excited to get to work at Ragsdale, which is a 4A program like Glenn. Ragsdale is coming off of a 2-8 overall season. The Tigers compete in the Metro 4A Conference, in which they finished in sixth place last season.
