An essential figure in the playoffs so far, Anthony Edwards has obviously caused a lot of talk in France in recent days. A tweet from the Timberwolves FR account about him also led to the adoption of a new nickname across the Atlantic.
His detractors will happily point out the fact that he does not dominate any statistical category and that his latest performances leave something to be desired in terms of skill. However, Anthony Edwards is certainly one of the players who have made their mark in the playoffs so far in the NBA. Leader of Timberwolves still in the fight for the title, he is logically gaining popularity internationally, including in France.
A viral tweet in French about Anthony Edwards creates a buzz in the US
Given the presence of Rudy Gobert within the franchise, Minnesota receives significant media coverage in France. The Timberwolves FR account has around ten thousand subscribers and recently shared one of Edwards’ highlights against the Nuggets… against a background of Celine Dion. However, it was not this epic montage, but rather its description that caught Jon Krawczynski’s attention:
I know the nickname is Ant, but Le Dagger D’EDWARDS goes hard https://t.co/tGlCZ3gSbr

I know his nickname is “Ant” but “EDWARDS’ Dagger” sounds amazing

Journalist from The Athletic, Krawczynski got excited about this bit of a sentence which is quite innocuous for the French public. This, with a touch of second degree, he who subsequently claimed to know the translation. In any case, other Internet users have shared their excitement about this astonishing “nickname” and clearly intend to use it to react to Ant’s prowess:
It really really does

“EDWARDS’ Dagger” sounds so good. I’m going to shout this every time Ant plants one now
Although he has nice nicknames such as “Ant-Man”, Anthony Edwards will potentially have to get used to hearing a new French-sounding one. Not sure that the latter will achieve great success in France though.
