Another Day of Upsets at the Rome Masters: Rublev and Auger-Aliassime Fall

After top seed Novak Djokovic the day before and Casper Ruud (NOR-5), the third top ten player was eliminated from the Masters 1000 tournament in Rome on Monday.

The number four seeded Russian Andrej Rublev lost in the third round against the French Alexandre Müller 6:3, 3:6, 2:6. For Rublev it was the first defeat after seven wins, for Müller it was the first success over a top ten player.

The Madrid finalist also failed before the round of 16: Felix Auger-Aliassime lost to the Australian Alex de Minaur after a three-hour fight 7:6(2),4:6,4:6.

The eleventh in the world rankings now meets number six seeded Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas. This year’s Monte Carlo champion defeated Britain’s Cameron Norrie 6:2,7:6(1).
