Andy Roddick has skin cancer

Since his retirement in 2012, Andy Roddick’s life has been turned upside down by skin cancer which has been present for several years. The former world No. 1, winner of the US Open in 2003, spoke in his podcast “Served with Andy Roddick” about an illness which forces him to undergo heavy treatments on his face.

“I have suffered from different types of skin cancer since I stopped playing. I had a squamous cell tumor removed from my lip five or six years ago, I never talked about it,” he explained to his subscribers.

The 41-year-old former tennis player went on to alert young players to the importance of protecting themselves against the sun’s UV rays to avoid experiencing what the three-time Wimbledon finalist has had to endure since leaving the courts. With a red face, he explained that he had just undergone a laser procedure.

The American was one of the best servers on the ATP circuit. A weapon that allowed him to reach four Grand Slam finals (three at Wimbledon and one at the US Open), where he was beaten each time by Roger Federer, after his one and only success at the US Open in 2003 against Juan Carlos Ferrero.
