Anastasia Grigorieva Reflects on the End of Her Olympic Journey

As already reported, in the last qualifying tournament of the Olympic cycle, Grigorieva was placed on the shoulder blades.

“The road to the Paris Olympics is over. It was definitely the most morally difficult stage of preparation in my career. Only I myself know how much I worked, how many things I went through and how much strength this Olympic cycle required of me. The result is what it is , and I accept it,” admits Anastasia Grigorieva.

“I want to thank from the bottom of my heart everyone who believed and supported me in this crazy Olympic cycle. I want to thank my coach Armandas Zvirbulis. You hardly understand how fantastic a person and coach you are. Thank you to your whole family for being there during the entire preparation phase. Thank you To the municipality of Daugavpils and the sports administration, the Latvian Olympic Committee, the Latvian Olympic team, sports doctors, physiotherapists, family and friends,” says the representative of free wrestling.

“Tears are falling because the road to the fourth Olympic Games is over. Looking back, I can safely say that we did everything we could and even more. But it still hurts,” admits the athlete, who is 34 years old today. “Time to relax. I earned my summer vacation.”

Grigorieva is the fifth place winner of the Tokyo Olympics (2021), a four-time European champion (2009, 2013, 2014, 2016), a two-time world bronze medalist (2014, 2017) and a mother of two children.
