Amazon Prime Video Secures NBA TV Rights for Saturday Night Games

Even if the NBA has not yet officially communicated on the subject, there is no longer any doubt that Amazon, via its Prime Video platform, will recover part of the TV rights. According to specialist John Ourand (Puck), the king of e-commerce would have convinced the NBA to reserve one evening per week for him, and it would be Saturday evening.

We had thus mentioned a multiplex system, similar to the League Pass, with all the matches of the same evening, visible on Prime Video. If Amazon negotiated on Saturday evening, it would be a nice move, especially since this exclusivity would also concern the NBA tournament, the play-in, and matches in the first round and conference semi-finals. As well as a conference final.

The price ? According to Puck, Amazon would be ready to pay 1.8 billion dollars per year, over a period of eleven years. Which gives an agreement worth 19.8 billion dollars!

ESPN and ABC retain their share

Still according to this source, Disney would retain part of the rights with its ESPN and ABC channels, for an annual amount of 2.6 billion dollars per year. Beyond matches broadcast on Wednesdays during the regular season, ESPN and ABC would remain the exclusive broadcaster of the NBA Finals and a conference final.

Finally, NBC is still in the running to replace TNT, and the NBA is only considering one additional partner. In total, the NBA intends to recover 7 billion dollars per year, compared to 2.7 billion previously…
