Algerian Junta’s Imaginary Victory Over Morocco: A Desperate Move After CAF Cup Disappointment

Pilloried by USMA supporters, in rage following the elimination of their club from the semi-final of the CAF Cup against RS Berkane, the military junta in power in Algiers welcomes a imaginary victory over Morocco. Explanations.

The military junta in power in Algiers is launching a new fake news story by boasting of an imaginary victory over Morocco. This latest incident follows the recent disappointment of USMA supporters, after the elimination of their club in the semi-final of the CAF Cup against RS Berkane.

Indeed, supporters of the Algiers Medina Sports Union point the finger at the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) as well as the military junta for their package against the Berkane Sports Renaissance. The cause of this package? The jersey flocked with the map of Morocco, which would have triggered the anger of Ouled El Bahdja fans.

In this case, Algerian authorities seized Berkane’s team jerseys upon his arrival in Algeria for the first leg, resulting in the Berkanis refusing to play in another jersey. For the return match in Morocco, USM Alger traveled but also refused to play, on orders from the junta.

This situation risks costing USM Alger dearly, which risks severe sanctions including a potential two-year suspension, a fine of $50,000, and deprivation of the bonus for reaching the semi-finals ($750,000).

To ease tensions, the junta had promised a victory before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), but this approach failed, adding to the humiliation.

And now, the junta welcomes another illusory victory against Morocco through the news concerning the Moroccan U17 women’s national team which will face Algeria without its “usual” jersey flocked with the map of Morocco.

According to the media in the pay of the junta, Algeria Now and Echorouk, “this decision by the CAF comes following a correspondence sent by the president of the FAF, Walid Sadi, to FIFA”.

This so-called victory is the height of ridicule, because the jersey of the Moroccan national teams has never displayed the Kingdom card.

In fact, Morocco has always competed in the same jersey in international competitions, including its historic feat at the World Cup in Qatar, a fact strangely overlooked by the Algerian media, whether official or private. .

As a reminder, the Lioncelles de l’Atlas face their Algerian counterparts this Friday, May 10 at the Berkane municipal stadium at 8 p.m. The return match is scheduled for the 17th of the same month at the Salem Mabrouki stadium in Algiers, at 5:30 p.m. (Moroccan time).
