Alexandre Muller Upsets Marton Fucsovics in Rome Masters 1000 Qualifying Round

The last French player to enter the fray on Thursday, Alexandre Muller joined Corentin Moutet and Varvara Gracheva on the qualifying bench for the second round of the Masters 1000 in Rome. A great performance since the 109th in the world, coming out of qualifying, took the scalp of Marton Fucsovics, 50th in the world and recent winner of the ATP 250 in Bucharest. What’s more after being clearly dominated in power during the first set and not having had the slightest opportunity during the second. But the Frenchman pulled away to finally win, at around 11 p.m. (4-6, 7-6 [5]6-2).

Muller managed to turn the match around in the tie-break of the second set, where he managed to win as many points on the opponent’s serve (3) as in the entire set. His willingness to take his chance on the return journey had paid off. More and more liberated, he then flew through the last act, signing a double break (5-1), then completing his success with a shutout. In the second round he will face another Frenchman, Arthur Fils, seeded n°31.
