Alejo Lingua Lavallén: Triumph Through Tears on the Tennis Court

Alejo Lingua Lavallén does not hide his emotions and it is not the first time that he breaks down in tears on a tennis court. But the emotion with which he experienced his consecration this Sunday in the Challenger in Santos (Brazil) was truly moving.

The 23-year-old from Córdoba and number 665 in the world ranking advanced from qualifying to the final of the Brazilian tournament and came back from behind in the title match against Lebanese Hady Habib (286) to win his first trophy on the ATP Challenger Tour .

The native of Marcos Juárez and based in Rosario had seven consecutive wins in Santos, the last one being crowned with a 4/6, 6/4 and 6/3 over Habib, which was achieved with an unforced error by the Lebanese.

Then, Lingua Lavallén collapsed on the brick dust and let out his emotions with a moving cry.

Until this Sunday, the Cordoban had won four games in 10 Challengers played.

Lingua Lavallén is a tireless fighter in tennis and the last few years have not been easy for the left-handed player.

Corruption. Argentine tennis player suspended for five years due to match-fixing

After the death in 2021 of his father, a faithful companion throughout his sporting career, tennis became difficult for the Córdoba native. He lost the desire to play and compete, and focused on recovering emotionally, participating in fewer tournaments. That, naturally, affected his career and his ranking.

Lingua Lavallén was one of the most outstanding players of his class (2001) in the junior stage and received the Estímulo de La Voz award in 2017. Since then, he has fought to earn his place in elite tennis: in 2022 he became the 468th in the ATP ranking, but having played a low number of tournaments in recent months made him fall back in the world rankings.
