Ajax has introduced Francesco Farioli as the new trainer for the coming season. In recent years, the Italian has risen from goalkeeper coach in the lower divisions to head coach at Nice. He led that club to 5th place in Ligue 1, also the position in which Ajax ended the season.
Francesco Farioli is a self-made man in football. At the age of 20, he started as a goalkeeper coach at the unsightly Margine Coperta, only to come onto the radar of Roberto De Zerbi through Lucchese and the Qatar U16, among others.
The ex-Brighton coach included Farioli in his staff at Benevento and Sassuolo. In 2020 he started to stand on his own two feet a little more. First he became an assistant at Alanyaspor, a year later he became head coach for the first time, at Fatih Karagümrük.
At 31, Farioli was the youngest head coach in the Turkish first division. Two years later, OGC Nice took the gamble, where he is now leaving for Amsterdam after just one year.
It is Farioli’s job to guide Ajax back to the top of the Netherlands and the sub-top of Europe after a difficult period. “We want to go back to basics and connect with what Ajax stands for,” says the 35-year-old Italian.
Everything shows that Francesco is an intelligent man who gets along well with people.
