Andre Agassi, eight-time Grand Slam champion, will captain the world team from the next edition of the Laver Cup.

Eight-time Grand Slam champion Andre Agassi will captain the world team from the next edition of the Laver Cup, organizers announced on Wednesday. The former world number one, who retired from the sport in 2006 and coached Novak Djokovic in 2017-18, will take charge at the 2025 Laver Cup, which will be held in San Francisco.

« I am very honored to accept the invitation to become the world captain of the Laver Cup team”Agassi said in a statement. The level of competition in the Laver Cup is off the charts and it’s easy to see why. You’re there with the team, your peers, guys you respect, and everyone has a responsibility. For me the key will be understanding and managing the needs of the players throughout the year and getting to know them so that we can choose the matches that will give us the best chance of winning and winning the Laver Cup.”

Agassi replaces compatriot John McEnroe, who had captained the world team since the inaugural edition of the three-day team tournament, which pits six of Europe’s best players against six of their counterparts from the rest of the world. This year, the Laver Cup will be held in Berlin from September 20 to 22.
