‘AA Ghent swallows a bitter pill: goldcrest towards the exit’

With the departure of Hein Vanhaezebrouck, a new era begins at AA Gent, where Sam Baro is increasingly taking control. However, the owner of the Buffaloes is already in danger of missing out on one pressing issue.

It became known earlier that Baro personally interfered with Jorthy Mokio’s file. Despite a lucrative proposal, both financially and sportingly, the 16-year-old top talent is temporarily refusing to sign his first professional contract in the Planet Group Arena.

Mokio away from Ghent?

To convince him, Mokio was already allowed to appear for the main team several times in the Europe Play-Offs. He even appeared at the kick-off for the first time in Sint-Truiden. The central defender was replaced after an hour and has not played since.

Although there was reportedly optimism that negotiations with his entourage would still be brought to a successful conclusion, it is increasingly looking like Mokio will look elsewhere. He recently applied for his release from the football association.

Ajax on the verge of victory

A mere formality, it sounded at the time, but now the people of Ghent are in danger of losing their golden boy for free. According to transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri, Mokio and his family went to Amsterdam last weekend to attend an Ajax match.

This is also confirmed by images that his father shared on social media. According to Tavolieri, discussions with Ghent are still ongoing. Who knows, maybe Baro will still manage to keep the coveted left leg on board for longer.
