A2 Playoff Quarter-Finals Recap: Trieste and Apu Udine Secure Wins, Cividale Falls to Cantù – Game 2 Set for May 7

DeAngelo stirs up MSG audience during Hurricanes’ defeat.

“We have previously discussed this topic throughout the year. In a passionate environment like this, it tends to stir up everyone’s emotions, and unfortunately, we were to blame once again in the beginning,” stated the speaker. “However, I noticed improvement as the game progressed, and we were able to calm down. The enthusiastic crowd may have influenced the referees tonight, and it certainly got us fired up. We addressed the need to calm down after the first period, and we were able to do just that.”

“I don’t care about it at all,” said DeAngelo, a former member of the Rangers from 2016 to 2021.

“Svech, I am unsure of your intentions in that situation. He is competing for the puck. That is not a careless penalty. As for Kuzy, he wishes he could change that moment, but the other player caused it and it’s one of those situations where the second person always gets caught. He is aware that he should have handled it differently,” stated Brind’Amour.Greg Wyshynski, ESPNMay 5, 2024, 08:47 PM ET

The speaker explained that although New York is known as a great sports town with enthusiastic fans, his team’s rink is even louder. He then stated that his team is not concerned with the opposing team’s fans.

Tony’s seemed to be more of a matter of the opponent not falling, making it likely not to be considered a penalty. Therefore, I do not see it as a careless penalty on my part. However, as I mentioned before, we do not want to give away any penalties.

However, Brind’Amour did not think his team was lacking discipline in Game 1.

Jordan Staal attributes the early penalties his team received in Game 1 to the atmosphere at Madison Square Garden.
DeAngelo expressed his frustration about the call and acknowledged the difficulty of the referee’s job, especially with the added pressure of five power plays. He stated that the outcome of the call cannot be changed.

DeAngelo, a defenseman for the Hurricanes, was subject to frequent profane chants from Rangers fans during Carolina’s 4-3 defeat in Game 1 on Sunday. This was especially true after he committed a penalty in the first period, resulting in a crucial power-play goal for the opposing team.

When inquired about the explanation provided by the referees, Coach Rod Brind’Amour of Carolina stated that they did not offer one that made sense to him.

The Rangers’ dominant power play quickly converted twice in the opening period, with Mika Zibanejad scoring just 9 seconds after DeAngelo’s roughing penalty on Will Cuylle, and Vincent Trocheck scoring 14 seconds after Evgeny Kuznetsov’s cross-checking foul on Adam Fox. This brought New York’s total to 2 goals on 2 attempts against Carolina’s top-ranked penalty kill, after converting 6 out of 16 in the previous round against the Washington Capitals.

The Hurricanes struggled with penalty calls at crucial moments during Game 1. This was evident when Andrei Svechnikov received a tripping penalty just six seconds after the Rangers’ Trocheck was penalized for knocking the puck over the glass with his hand at 19:19 of the third period. This occurred while Carolina was down by one goal and had their goalie taken out of play.

On Tuesday night, Game 2 will take place at Madison Square Garden, where loyal Rangers fans will once again bring their enthusiasm to boost their team and disrupt their opponents. DeAngelo disagrees with the belief that the lively atmosphere may lead to the Carolina team playing recklessly.
