A Unique Approach: Not Discussing Bayern’s Coaching Search Before Champions League Semi-Final

This is an unusual tactic…

Before the semi-final second leg in the Champions League (in the BILD live ticker), Bayern sports director Max Eberl will answer questions on DAZN.

However, moderator Laura Wontorra decides not to ask Eberl directly about Bayern’s urgent coaching search. She leaves it up to the official whether he wants to comment on it.

Wontorra elaborates: “Max, we just talked a little about the coaching search. We saw all the news in the film article. We want to give them the opportunity to get all the news out and share it with the Bayern fans.”

She adds: “But we think this is the wrong time to go into a deeper discussion with them about this. It is their decision whether there is anything they want to report. Otherwise we would leave it at that and just talk about a nice Champions League evening.”

Unsurprisingly, Eberl does not want to comment on this.

“We should all do that. We should all calm down. “We shouldn’t use adjectives to comment on this search,” he begins his answer.

And further: “I know it concerns the whole world. But today it’s about a Champions League semi-final. A second German team could make it to the final. To be honest, that’s a bit too short for me.”

After that, the search for a coach is no longer an issue in the interview and Wontorra simply lets Eberl get away with it…
