Sokratis Papastathopoulos is hanging up his boots at the end of the season. The 35-year-old announced this on Instagram.

“Betis became a family for me, everyone took me in as if I had been here for years. I loved the city, the team. But my life away from my family forces me to end this journey. That’s why I am “I’m happy that my own football career will end at Betis and in the Spanish league,” said the former BVB player.

“And I would like to thank everyone who accompanied me on this path,” said the Greek.

Sokratis played 90 games for the Greek national team, and at club level he wore the black and yellow jersey of Borussia Dortmund most often (198). With BVB he won the DFB Cup in 2017 and the FA Cup with Arsenal in 2020. He also won national championship titles with AC Milan (2011) and Olympiakos Piraeus (2021, 2022).

In October 2023 he joined Betis, where he will soon appear for the last time.
