Thanks to a strong comeback, the Dallas Mavericks win the series 4-2 against the Oklahoma City Thunder and advance to the Western Conference finals.

After a great comeback in game six of the NBA quarterfinals, the Dallas Mavericks made it into the next round and can continue to dream of the second title in franchise history. The team led by the exceptional Slovenian basketball player Luka Doncic won against the Oklahoma City Thunder 117:116 and thus the series 4:2. In the third quarter, the Mavs were already down by 17 points.

“The whole team is great. What a comeback, what a performance,” said Doncic: “This team has something special.”

In the Western Conference final, Dallas will face defending champions Denver Nuggets or Minnesota Timberwolves. In the East, the main round winners Boston Celtics are waiting for the New York Knicks or Indiana Pacers. The seventh game decides the two quarter-final series.

Doncic excelled against OKC with his third triple-double (29 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists) in a row. However, the Mavericks’ match winner was PJ Washington, who converted two free throws to win with 2.5 seconds left. Oklahoma’s top scorer Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (36 points) fouled him while trying to score from the three-point line.

Afterwards he struggled with his decision. “If I were in that moment again, I wouldn’t foul him, I would let him throw or discard,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. But that’s “Basketball. You win, you lose. You make mistakes.”

Dallas was last in the Conference Finals in 2022, but lost to the Golden State Warriors. The Texans achieved their only title so far in 2011, led by German superstar Dirk Nowitzki.
