2026 World Baseball Classic Announces Four Major Cities as Hosts for International Tournament

The highly anticipated 2026 World Baseball Classic will take place in four major cities, uniting fans from diverse cultures. Announced Thursday, the games will be played at LoanDepot Park in Miami, Minute Maid Park in Houston, Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan and the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo.

This 2026 edition marks the sixth iteration of the premier international baseball tournament. Major League Baseball (MLB), the MLB Players Association (MLBPA) and the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) will jointly host the event, scheduled for March 2026.

Miami’s loanDepot Park will host the first round, the quarterfinals, the semifinals and the championship match, as it did in 2023. Tokyo continues as the host city for the sixth consecutive tournament. Puerto Rico, absent from the last two tournaments, will host for the fourth time. Houston debuts as host of the tournament.

Will it surpass the previous edition?

The 2026 World Baseball Classic promises to captivate global audiences. The previous edition attracted more than 1.3 million fans, surpassing the 2017 record despite changes to the tournament format, underscoring the enduring appeal of the event.

In the 2023 Classic, Japan won, led by Shohei Ohtani, a standout player for the Los Angeles Dodgers. This was Japan’s third title, complementing their previous victories in 2006 and 2009, during the Ichiro Suzuki era.

The United States and the Dominican Republic are the other nations with champion titles, winning in 2017 and 2013, respectively.
