Chihuahua, Chih.- This Sunday the 2024 National Universiade will begin, which will be hosted by the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes, and there will be participation from several institutions in our state.
The event, which will end on May 27, will see athletes from the UACH, the Tec de Monterrey Chihuahua campus and the Regional University of the North, in addition to the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juárez.
There will be 30 disciplines that will be carried out during the university sports event, and the action will begin with weightlifting, taekwondo, association football, 3×3 basketball, softball and chess, this weekend.
It is estimated that more than 10,000 young people from all over the country will participate in disciplines such as athletics, baseball, boxing, rugby, sport climbing, handball, soccer, wrestling, tennis, table tennis, karate, judo, paddle tennis, badminton, fencing, indoor and beach volleyball, archery, flag billet, basketball, gymnastics, triathlon, kick boxing, as well as the inclusion of esports.
For the UACH there were five gold medals in the last edition, which took place in Hermosillo, Sonora. In chess, Andrea Ruiz Villalba; Ashley Arana, in taekwondo, 73 kilogram category; the women’s handball team; as well as Brisa Martínez, both in total and in clean and jerk, in the 45 kilogram weightlifting category.
The Adelitas, multiple champions in women’s handball, returned to the top of the podium in triumph last year, after beating the Tigres of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León in the final, by a score of 25-24.
The UACH hopes that its baseball, softball and athletics teams will also fight for gold medals.
For their part, the Borregas from the Tec de Monterrey Chihuahua campus were bronze medalists in indoor volleyball in that competition.
The finals that will close this year’s competition will be athletics and indoor volleyball, although it has not been specified which track and field events, as well as which branch of volleyball will be played on May 27.
