1. FC Cologne has once again been relegated from the Bundesliga. Club legend Pierre Littbarski is now demanding consequences. In a video, he vents his displeasure about what is happening at the club.

Cologne football legend Pierre Littbarski has called for personnel consequences following 1. FC’s relegation from the Bundesliga. “I’ve had enough,” said the 64-year-old former German international in a video published on Instagram on Friday.

“Everyone saw that the FC had no ideas, no creativity, no goal threat up front. And despite an outstanding goalkeeper, Schwäbe, they were as open as a barn door at the back,” says Littbarski: “I would like to see someone stand up and say: ‘I screwed up. I underestimated the situation, I take responsibility for it.’ No, they are all stuck to their posts, as if glued with adhesive.”

Littbarski is pessimistic about the Rhinelanders’ future in the second division – also against the backdrop of Cologne’s transfer ban. “The top performers are obviously abandoning the sinking ship and the club cannot sign any players in the next two transfer periods. How can you survive in the second division, let alone get promoted?” he said. “These are mistakes worth millions. In the private sector, those responsible are held accountable.” The transfer ban is indeed hitting the FC hard, but it will no longer apply in the transfer period after next.

Criticism of Florian Wirtz’s departure

Littbarski, who was born in Berlin, spent a long time of his active career with Cologne. He played for the Rhinelanders between 1978 and 1993, with the exception of one season. In 1990 he became world champion. Littbarski now accuses the club of not keeping national player Florian Wirtz. The 21-year-old played for Cologne in his youth and moved to Bayer Leverkusen in 2020. His market value is currently estimated at 110 million euros by transfermarkt.de.
