Zion Williamson’s Hamstring Injury: A Hopeful Return for the NBA Playoffs

Zion Williamson and the infirmary, a combination that has been going on since the beginning of the former Duke’s NBA career and which seems to never end. Only 184 games played out of 410 official ones. And again a few days ago. A few minutes after the end of the first game of the Play-in, Zion suffered a hamstring injury that forced the star of the New Orleans Pelicans to stop. But now the news that could make coach Willie Green smile again: the doctors believe a “realistic” return of the number 1 on the court during these Playoffs.

“I knew something had happened. But last time the pain on the right side was definitely sharper. This time it wasn’t like that. I felt as if, at that moment, there was something wrong.”

The Pelicans, shortly after the forced exit from the field of play, announced one hamstring strain. The first estimate for recovery time was about two weeks. A hard blow to the boy’s morale:

“It was very demoralizing at first, I can’t lie. The season was going so well… But I took a day or two to get over it and now I’m back to doing what I’ve been saying all year, which is adding day after day of work and getting back on the pitch.” .

If Williamson were to actually sit out for just two weeks, in theory he could return for Game 5 of the series with the Thunder. This obviously comes with two huge “ifs”: if the series lasts that long and if Zion actually recovers in time. But in the event that the Pelicans manage to get through the first round with a huge blow against OKC, Williamson would have much more time to recover and return without risking anything.
