Young Berruyère Emerges Victorious in European Junior Tournament Final

The young Berruyère is having an exceptional season and her victory in the final of the European junior tournament in Poznan (Poland) on Sunday is another illustration of this.

The situation was not lacking in salt on Sunday afternoon. From Creps Centre-Val de Loire, 1,500 kilometers from Poznan (Poland), Yann Bothy was preparing to compete in the second division senior regional championships while trying to remotely follow the fight of his sister, Sarah, in the final of the – 52 kg from a European junior tournament.

Formidable on ground techniques, the young Berruyère had a string of ippons: in the quarter-final against the Kazakh Ayaulym Kairat, then in the semi-final against the Azeri Khadizha Gadashova. In the final, she found herself facing an old acquaintance: her compatriot Alicia Marques, crowned French junior champion in March. In this same competition, Sarah Bothy had to go through the repechage to obtain a very satisfactory bronze medal.

La Berruyère was therefore not the favorite, but she pushed her opponent to make a mistake, until the attribution of a hansoku make (disqualification) against the Arthézienne. After becoming French university champion last month, Sarah Bothy won a new major title here.
