The German national team gets the next home tournament

After hosting the European Championships this January, Germany will have its next big handball event. The World Cup will take place here in 2029. This time, however, Germany is only co-host.
Germany, the venue for the European Championships this year, will co-host the Men’s Handball World Championship in 2029. The International Handball Federation (IHF) announced this on Tuesday. The partner of the German Handball Federation (DHB) is France. The capital Paris will host the opening game and the final round. The German strand of the tournament should move from the west and south to Paris.
“France and Germany are two great host nations with whom world handball can look forward to the next development step,” said DHB President Andreas Michelmann. As the association also announced, there are considerations about involving other nations in the world tournament. “It is conceivable that a preliminary group of the German strand will take place in a neighboring country,” said CEO Mark Schober.
“Sign of close German-French friendship”
Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser was pleased with the decision. “This is a great decision for us as a sporting nation – and another sign of the close German-French friendship. I am sure that together we will be excellent hosts for teams and fans from all over the world,” said Faeser.

Germany will also host the Women’s World Cup together with the Netherlands in 2025 and the Men’s World Cup as sole host in 2027. The IHF also awarded further title fights on Tuesday.

In 2031 the men’s World Cup will take place in Denmark, Iceland and Norway. The women will determine the world champion in Spain in 2029 and in the Czech Republic and Poland in 2031. Saudi Arabia, which is currently a major player in world sports, had originally expressed interest in the men’s tournaments in 2029 and 2031, but then withdrew from the application.
