After the defeat against Atlético Madrid, BVB coach Edin Terzic had to give many interviews. He did one with the expert from the US broadcaster CBS – who used to be his biggest idol. So the coach asked him for a selfie.
Edin Terzic is not only the coach of Borussia Dortmund, but also a real football fan. He used to watch BVB’s games in the south stand with the hardcore fans. He proved that his passion as a fan continues to burn after his team’s game in the Champions League quarter-finals against Atlético Madrid.
Part of a coach’s job is to give interviews. Among other things, the US broadcaster CBS wanted to hear a few words about BVB’s 2-1 defeat in Madrid. To the coach’s delight, expert Alessandro Del Piero was on duty for the broadcaster. Terzic responded in English (“Then we have the big, big, big chance to go to the semi-finals”), as a short clip on X shows.
Alessandro Del Piero is a polite person
Del Piero, who is a polite person, wishes the coach a warm “Good Luck”, then they say goodbye and Terzic disappears from the picture. However, a moment later he is back, as the recording shows. Apparently he gave it a try and asked Del Piero for a selfie together. “Sorry, sorry, but you’ve been my biggest (Idol?).” The last words can no longer be heard. Del Piero agrees, Terzic puts on his best toothpaste smile and gets his selfie.
The enthusiasm for Del Piero is understandable. The Italian attacker was one of the best technically and most elegant footballers in the world throughout his career. The icon of Juventus Turin won the Champions League as a very young player in the 1990s, became champions many times and won the World Cup title with Italy in 2006.
Good omen for Edin Terzic?
Maybe the selfie is a good omen for the people of Dortmund? They don’t have a Del Piero in their ranks, but they still have a chance of progressing. Atlético’s team showed off in the first half, and two mistakes in defense led to a 2-0 deficit before the break. BVB improved in the second half and substitute Sébastien Haller scored the goal to make the final score 1-2. The goal gives Dortmund a realistic chance of reaching the semi-finals in the second leg.
