The team and fans were in ecstasy because just a few minutes earlier Borussia Dortmund achieved the great sensation against Atletico Madrid (4:2): reaching the semi-finals. But what happened a little later caused a stir on social media.

Julian Brandt wanted to give his jersey from the game against Atletico Madrid to a wheelchair user. But another Borussia Dortmund fan took his jersey away live on TV. Or not? The scene caused a misunderstanding. The wheelchair user told DER WESTEN that it was not a case of “jersey theft”.

BVB – Atletico: “Shirt theft” causes excitement

What exactly happened? An alleged “jersey theft” is causing a stir on social media and at Borussia Dortmund. In the middle of the celebrations for reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League, BVB star Julian Brandt wanted to throw his jersey to a wheelchair user.

The action was accompanied by a cameraman and then shown on “Prime Video”. When Brandt wanted to give the jersey to the wheelchair user, another BVB fan suddenly tore it out of the recipient’s hand. Many supporters were shocked by the action. After all, a wheelchair user’s jersey is supposedly stolen here.

DER WESTEN contacted him. The wheelchair user is Kim Basenach. The scene was shared thousands of times on social media. The BVB fan now makes it clear: he, who was supposed to get the jersey, and the woman who took it are a couple.

“The jersey that was supposedly stolen is now in my possession”

“This woman has been my friend for eleven years. She only took the jersey because Julian Brandt didn’t come any closer. It was a beautiful moment for us,” Basenach told this editorial team. He is very proud that Brandt gave him his jersey. “The jersey that was supposedly stolen is now in my possession,” he emphasized afterwards.

Many fans called on BVB to find the wheelchair user and give him a new jersey. Borussia Dortmund also confirmed this. But with the fan’s clarification, it’s over. Basenach himself also wants peace to return now.

“It was a big shock when we read all the news this morning. “I’m very happy with my girlfriend and it wasn’t nice at all what was written about her,” said the BVB fan. Now he hopes that the issue has finally been settled.

All’s well that ends well. So the celebrations at BVB can continue. In the semi-finals, the Revierklub will face Paris Saint-Germain again, against whom they lost 2-0 and drew 1-1 in the group stage. The stars only have one goal (more on that here).
