Westfalenstadion Celebrates Milestone Birthday with Special Jersey Release

The Westfalenstadion celebrated its milestone birthday on Tuesday, and the celebrations will continue in Dortmund on the next Bundesliga match day. BVB has released a new special jersey for this occasion.

The home game against VfB Stuttgart next Saturday (6.30 p.m., LIVE! on kicker) is all about the stadium’s birthday. The Westfalenstadion – today Signal-Iduna-Park – has been the home stadium of Borussia Dortmund since April 2, 1974, for half a century now.

In honor of the anniversary, the club presented a new special jersey on Wednesday, which coach Edin Terzic’s team will wear on Saturday. The design is based on the jersey that was worn in the first team photo in the stadium: the sleeves, flanks and collar are completely yellow, the torso is largely black – but the outlines of the stadium are also incorporated into the design.

The years of the Westfalenstadion’s existence are sewn into the neck of the jersey (“1974 – 2024”); in memory of that time, the logo of BVB – as well as the supplier – has a retro look. The BVB logo therefore comes with three black circles instead of just one.

Celebrating thousands of “unforgettable moments” together

In the top game of the 28th matchday, the “thousands of unforgettable moments” that the club and its fans experienced in this “temple” will be celebrated together. “It’s just a place until we make it our home. It’s just a piece of fabric until it holds countless memories,” it says in pathetic words on the club’s homepage.

For Borussia, however, Saturday is not just about celebrating the stadium’s anniversary – it is also about three important points in the fight for the Champions League places. Dortmund is currently in fourth place, three points ahead of RB Leipzig. Stuttgart, the next opponent, is four points ahead of BVB in third place.
