Ville-Marie’s New Skateboard Park Set to Open this Summer After Successful Bid Process

Ville-Marie plans to inaugurate its new skateboard park this summer. Only one company submitted a bid, for $239,500, after two unsuccessful calls for tenders.

Finally, we had bidders who made us an offer. And not just any one!, rejoices the director of leisure, sports and green spaces, Manon Gauthier.

The project has been underway since 2020 at the City. This time, we have a final product, we have a project on the table which will be carried out in the coming weeks, underlines Ms. Gauthier.

The City also sent the company images of neighboring skateboard parks, such as those in New Liskeard, Rouyn-Noranda, Malartic and Cadillac to match the others.

Two companies from outside the region will be responsible for the construction of the new park. One of them specializes in developing skateparks”,”text”:”skatepark”}}”>skateparks around the world.

Un budget review

Part of the project will be subsidized by the Ministry of Education and its Financial Assistance Program for Recreational and Sports Infrastructure.

As the project was submitted in February 2020, inflation forced the City of Ville-Marie to reshuffle its budget, although the ministry allocated an additional amount to take into account cost increases. We remained in the same proportions as what we initially assessed, assures Manon Gauthier.

The City remains looking for sponsors or other grants to make up the difference.

Construction is expected to begin in May, with the city’s Public Works Department. It will then extend over six weeks, from the beginning of June until the end of July, with the company responsible for the development.

The official inauguration is expected to take place in early August.
