Viktor Axelsen Advances to Semi-Finals at EC Badminton Despite Initial Challenge

Despite problems in the first set against compatriot Rasmus Gemke, Viktor Axelsen is ready for the semi-finals at the EC badminton in Saarbücken, Germany, after winning in two sets.

21-19, 21-12 the figures were in Axelsen’s favor, who will therefore meet Toma Junior Popov on Saturday for a place in the final.

Rasmus Gemke gave the Danish world number one a fight to the line from the first shuttlecock, but in the end Axelsen was too big a mouthful.

Gemke got off to a flying start

It seemed for a long time that Gemke would win the first set, where he always seemed faster, sharper and more aggressive than his compatriot.

At the first drink break, Gemke led 11-7, but from there Axelsen slowly began to eat away at his opponent.

At 19-19, the former world champion really showed why he is the best in the world and with two quick points he decided the set in his own favor.

In the second set, Viktor Axelsen turned up the heat further, and then Rasmus Gemke could not keep up.

He quickly got through to Gemke, who only had to act as an extra when Axelsen rose into the air and smashed the ball across, onto the body or down the line.

However, Gemke fought everything he could to make it exciting, but it was never really exciting.

Viktor Axelsen grabbed the second set with 21-12 and is therefore ready for tomorrow’s semi-final.

In the other semi-final, Anders Antonsen meets Finland’s Joakim Oldorff, so there are possibilities for a purely Danish final on Sunday.
