New edition of school books in use at Paulschule

“Leo – the little lion” is the name of the child-friendly teaching book, which helps Bottrop students to internalize socially relevant values during the judo project weeks. Little Leo’s adventures are very popular with children and help them to correctly understand values such as respect, modesty and appreciation and to integrate them into their everyday lives. The implementation of the content was even scientifically supported by the University of Duisburg/Essen and, in addition to conveying values, it also promotes language acquisition, among other things. Two variants were created and adapted to the first and second as well as the third and fourth grades. “The book is a great addition to judo lessons on the mat. Of course, this also involves costs and we are very pleased that, in addition to our long-standing partner ELE, Sparkasse Bottrop and the Egon Bremer Foundation are helping us with the implementation and financing. Every child in the project is given a copy of the book and can read it again after they have finished judo and enjoy their adventures with Leo. After 14 years now, an impressive number of books and the corresponding costs have accumulated. Without support, it would be difficult for the partner association JC 66 Bottrop to manage this,” says JC 66 President Detlef Kaziur, grateful for the partnerships. The latest edition of “Leo – the Little Lion”, which has been completely revised in text and layout, was already in use at the current project school, the Paulschule Bottrop. “Many little judo fighters wanted to take the book with them on vacation and read it with their parents. This is a nice appreciation and shows the enthusiasm for the cheeky little Leo. The fact that the values are retained along the way is intentional and an important effect,” says project trainer Sven Helbing.

Last Friday, the big “ELE final tournament” took place for the Paul students in the Dieter Renz sports hall. There, too, the children were reminded of Leo through posters, roll-ups and giveaways and felt safe and secure. This meant the little fighters could show what they had learned. And in front of a large audience, because parents, friends, relatives and teachers didn’t want to miss the final show. In front of all the audience and classmates, the school’s most hard-working children were awarded their new belts. A total of 19 judoka are now allowed to wear the 8th Kyu, i.e. the white-yellow belt. “We rarely have so many examinees at schools. It was really fun to welcome and teach such a large group at the Judo School of Values. This is also a lot of fun for the children if they have many partners. I hope that I will see many of them again at the JC 66 judo training,” said judo trainer Sven Helbing. The Judo Bundesliga team JC 66 Bottrop offers a training course, the Judo School of Values, that was created especially for the project children. There, the following 19 children prepared for the exam and were honored at the final tournament by JC 66 President Detlef Kaziur: Niklas Noreikat, Charlotte Renken, Luca Milszewski, Mica and Fynn Linner, Frieda Baumann, Elise Simon, Max Bucuta, Nele Koll, Victoria Albuschat , Niklas Schmidt, Ben Preuß, Marla Honnerlage, Emilio Koch, Miguel Krawczykoski, Charlotte Illerhaus, Marisa Rahmann, Ben Fleischer and Ammro Hüssien. “So the first step to the black belt has been taken,” continued Kaziur, who himself was on the tatami as a judge on Friday. Maybe some will even make it there. This is certainly possible in Bottrop and at the JC 66.
