UConn Achieves Back-to-Back NCAA Championship Victory

For the first time since 2007 and Joakim Noah’s Florida Gators, the NCAA champion retained his crown on Monday. And so it was UConn which achieved the famous back-to-back, defeating Purdue (75-60) at the end of a university tournament controlled from start to finish.

With an average difference of 23.3 points during the six “March Madness” matches, the Huskies were even more dominant than last season (20), and the 37 points of Canadian giant Zach Edey (2.22 m ), whose duel with Donovan Clingan (11 points, 5 rebounds) was expected, did not carry much weight at State Farm Stadium in Glendale.

Only one successful three-point shot for Purdue

Still in the game at halftime (30-36), Purdue ended up cracking after returning from the locker room, unable to find relays for Edey and three-point shooting windows: the Boilermakers, yet one of the teams the most skilled in this area this season, only attempted 7 shots from behind the arc, for only one success.

Opposite, the Huskies were better armed collectively and they executed their game plan to perfection, carried by a lively Tristen Newton. Author of 20 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists, the 22-year-old guard was named Most Outsanding Player of the final tournament. Stephon Castle (15 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists) and Cam Spencer (11 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals) also stood out, offering UConn the sixth university title in its history.
