U SPORTS Sets Television Ratings Records for Third Consecutive Year: Canadians Embrace Passion for Canadian University Sports

Canadians once again proved that they are passionate about Canadian university sports as U SPORTS set television ratings records for a third year in a row.

During the 2023-2024 season, online viewing of U SPORTS championships increased by 20% compared to 2022-23with audiences across Canada viewing overa million streams U SPORTS championships on digital platforms CBC Sports and Radio-Canada Sports (CBC Gem, cbcsports.ca, the CBC Sports app, the CBC Sports YouTube channel, Radio-Canada.ca/Sports and ICI TOU.TV).

U SPORTS has teamed up with TVA Sportsofficial French-speaking partner of the organization, to offer record-setting coverage of the U SPORTS GreenShield Men’s Basketball Ultimate 8 Gold Medal Game and the final of the 2024 U SPORTS GFL Women’s Hockey Championship, presented by Connect Energy. The men’s basketball duel between Laval University and Queen’s University broke the previous record for a French audience of a match of 59%while Concordia’s gold medal winning performance against the University of Toronto was Most-Watched U SPORTS Women’s Hockey TV Showaveraging over 26,242 (2+) viewers.

An equally promising future

In 2024-2025, TVA Sports will begin the first year of an exclusive three-year contract for French-language football broadcasting which will allow the network to broadcast U SPORTS National Championship games at its discretion.

CBC Sports will provide exclusive English media coverage of the 2024 Vanier Cup on November 23 from Kingston, Ontario and the gold medal games of the U SPORTS Women’s and Men’s Basketball Ultimate 8 Tournaments on March 16, 2025 from Vancouver. CBC Sports’ digital platforms (CBC Gem, cbcsports.ca, the CBC Sports app and the CBC Sports YouTube channel) continue to be the exclusive English-language broadcast platforms for U SPORTS championships. During this time, Radio-Canada Sports will provide digital broadcasting in French U SPORTS championships (except football) on Radio-Canada.ca/Sports and ICI TOU.TV.
