Miloš Roman arranged a hockey fairy tale for the whole of Třinec today after five and a half hours of extraordinary hockey battle. At 121:46, he ended the second-longest match in extraleague history with the winning goal and ensured that the Steelers were the first in the elimination fights for the title to turn the series from 0-3.
At the same time, he himself decided the seventh battle of the quarter-finals with České Budějovice with the winning goal. In an interview with journalists, the twenty-four-year-old forward highlighted the character of the defending champions.
“I’m very happy for the goal, but I don’t expect to get any bonuses for it. It doesn’t matter at all that I made the decision again. Huge thanks to all the boys for what we showed. We showed heart and great character. Throughout the series . No one let go and we believed that we could advance until the last moment. I feel a huge euphoria now,” said Roman, who has scored three goals in 14 games this year.
The “endless” match ended after Sparta’s defense forgot about him and he was left unoccupied near Jakub Kovář’s goal. “It’s true that the whole overtime was cautious. Before the goal, I didn’t even know where the puck was at first. I just tried to go to the goal because I saw the free space and I hoped that the puck would reach me. When I scored the goal , I suddenly had such a blackout that I don’t even know what was happening inside me. I was just rejoicing with the fans and teammates,” he described the immediate feelings after the key hit.
When Sparta, which was already considered co-favorite for the title with Pardubice before the season, led 3-0 in the matches, Třinečtí looked like a write-off. But in the rest of the series, they showed tremendous inner strength, thanks to which they already won 15 consecutive series and four titles in a row. They will even play the sixth final in a row against Dynamo.
“We know how good our players are and what they can do. We kept believing, even when we were 0-3 in games. It paid off for us. Before the seventh game, we said to ourselves in the cabin that we could be the first to advance after the first three losses. We believed in each other. That series had everything – goals, emotions, fouls… It must have been very attractive for people. But Sparta deserves a lot of respect for the way they played,” said Roman.
It was obvious that with each additional extension, the strength of the players significantly decreased. And with them, even the laid-back chances disappear. “It was very challenging. In such a situation, you don’t even know if you have any strength or not… We always focused only on the nearest substitution, we went from one to the other. We didn’t look any further. We had our heads set in such a way to decide any shot will do,” said Roman.
However, as the winners of the great drama, Třinečtí will absorb the enormous fatigue much better. And they will need a quick regeneration, because the fight for the gold with the winner of the regular season, Pardubice, will start on Tuesday. “We set ourselves up again in such a way that we go into battle. In such situations, fatigue goes away,” said Roman.
