Tourist Overnight Stays Continue to Rise in Switzerland, March 2024 Shows Promising Growth

Tourist overnight stays continue to grow in Switzerland, even after the record-breaking 2023: the progression compared to the corresponding period last year stood at 4.6% in March, according to a first estimate published today, Tuesday 16 April, by Federal Statistical Office.

Tourists from abroad contributed +7.4%, while indigenous demand rose by 2.1%. Absolute figures are not yet known: only the three indicated percentages have been released.

2024 is therefore confirmed with a plus sign and in March the nights appear to have increased more markedly than in January, when the increase stood at 2.2% (+4.0% foreign demand, +0.6 % the indigenous one) and in February, which showed a step forward of 3.8% (+9.4% foreigners, -0.3% Swiss).

The values released today are part of the Hesta-Flash experimental statistics. To have the absolute numbers, the regional disaggregated data and all the other information to which the Federal Statistics Office has accustomed us, we will have to wait until May 6th.
