Tour winner Vingegaard can leave hospital

Cycling star Jonas Vingegaard has left the hospital twelve days after his serious fall. His team Visma-Lease a bike announced this on Tuesday.

“I would like to thank the medical team who took such good care of me,” said the Danish Tour de France winner. Vingegaard fell on a descent during the Tour of the Basque Country and has been in the Alava University Hospital in Vitoria ever since. It is still unclear what the rest of his season will look like.

In the fall, the 27-year-old broke his collarbone and several ribs and suffered a lung injury. Vingegaard will now travel to Denmark or his new home in Switzerland to continue the regeneration. Neither Vingegaard nor his team commented on the further course of the season and whether participation in the tour is realistic.
