Toulouse Baseball Team Focused on Success in New Championship Format

the essentials The Toulousains are attacking with ambition a championship whose formula has radically changed.

As far as French baseball is concerned, the elite has never lived up to its name so well. Indeed, no more version of 10 and two pools of 5 to make way for a top 8. “The championship is tightened in a unique formula where everyone competes which makes the challenge exciting and the level more homogeneous”, analyzes the president of Stade Toulousain, Yanaël Delpech. In head-on competition with Sénart, Rouen, La Rochelle, Montigny, Metz, Montpellier and Savigny, the “red and black” know that the road is going to be long and in every sense of the word.

Confidence in youth

“The semi-finalist place last year did not put more stress than that on the group. During the opening match, I felt more determination than questioning,” admits the leader who however, had to work to reshape its workforce. “We lost two important executives with the departures of Solivares and Hereaud but we compensated with other foreign recruits and especially young people from the France division,” he explains, very attached to the training.

A good point for the Toulouse residents because now the Federation has established a quota of 5 mandatory French players among the starters at each meeting. “The other teams brought in renowned foreign players but on our side, we wanted to preserve our executives and give young people a chance, the recipe worked last year,” recalls Yanaël Delpech. Serious in their preparation and stubborn in quickly finding the right collective settings, the Stadistes started this new exercise rather well. At home, they certainly lost their first outing on Saturday against Savigny (2-6) but made up for it on Sunday in style (4-2). A good start is necessary in order to (re)gain our bearings and hope to match or even exceed the 2023 trajectory.
