Toronto Raptors’ Jontay Porter Under Investigation for Gambling: Could Face NBA Ban

Jontay Porter of the Toronto Raptors could be kicked out of the NBA if accusations about gambling are true, league commissioner Adam Silver said Wednesday.

Silver, speaking after a two-day meeting of NBA governors, revealed no details about the investigation surrounding Porter, saying only that it is ongoing.

Porter has not played since the league said it was studying betting models surrounding his on-field performance.

“I have a wide range of disciplines (to apply),” Silver said. It’s a cardinal sin he’s accused of in the NBA. The last extreme option I have is to ban him from the game. That’s the level of authority I have, because there is nothing more serious. »

ESPN first reported the investigation, which the network said focused on Porter’s performance in games held Jan. 26 and March 20.

On Wednesday, Porter was listed as unavailable for a 10th game in a row ahead of his team’s match in Brooklyn against the Nets. The team speaks of personal reasons.

The Raptors will then finish the season with games in Miami on Friday and Sunday.
