Thom GICQUEL and Delphine DELRUE (n°13, TDS 2) are finally European Champions! For their 3th consecutive final after that of the European Championships in 2022 and that of the European Games in 2023, the French climb to the highest step of the podium after their victory over the pair Mathias CHRISTIANSEN/Alexandra BØJE (n°10) 21/16 21/ 15. A success that the French built with patience and serenity. A notch above their opponents, they played a successful match from the first to the last point. Thom and Delphine bring the first European title to French badminton.
Delphine DELRUE : “We are extremely proud to finally have this title in our pocket. We had a very good match today against very difficult opponents to play against, who have won big tournaments. But we were more serene and calmer than them. It’s a lot of pride to bring back the first title for France in the senior Europe.”
Thom GICQUEL: “We had ups and downs, it made us resilient. We knew it was going to be hard. The year was difficult, we knew that if we wanted to go for gold we had to fight from start to finish. end of the competition, that’s what we did.”
