President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has made the reform of economic and financial governance of Senegal’s natural resources a priority, promising increased transparency.

During his speech to the Nation on April 3, on the eve of the 64th anniversary of Senegal’s independence, he declared: “The exploitation of our natural resources, property of the people according to the Constitution, will be at the heart of my government’s concerns. In addition to posting mining, oil and gas contracts online on the Itie Senegal website, I undertake to disclose the effective ownership of extractive companies, in accordance with Itie standards.

However, according to Le Soleil, this initiative will require a modification of decree 2020-791 of March 19, 2020. Despite the adoption of the new Itie standard, the Register of beneficial owners remains accessible only to certain people, specifies the daily.
