Thierry Jousseaume: The Journey of a Paralympic Archer to Paris 2024

“I am 53 years old, I am married and the father of three children, introduces himself Thierry Jousseaume. I am an electronics cable fitter at the Thales company in Cholet. This has adjusted my schedule so that I can best prepare for my objectives, and I benefit from a professional integration contract. I am licensed at Cholet Archery. »

The disabled archer, originally from Jallais, delegated commune of Beaupréau-en-Mauges (Maine-et-Loire), had missed the Paralympic Games of Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2021, due to a drastic selection of a single representative by nation in every event.

Qualifying in Dubai

But, since Thursday March 28 and the announcement of the French Paralympic and Sports Committee, Thierry Jousseaume knows that he will participate in those of Paris 2024. The selection, for almost two years, ended during the world tournament in Dubai, where the Jallaisien finished first French. A great satisfaction for him and his club, the reward for many years of training, sacrifices and challenges overcome.

Thierry Joussaume started para-archery in 1987. Then, after a break of several years, he resumed competition in 2013. He practices the discipline with a compound bow. In August 2023, he won his first European team title, associated with Maxime Guérin, in Rotterdam (Netherlands). The best performance of his career, after a 4th place at the 2022 World Championships, in a mixed team.

Individually and perhaps in a mixed team

Several times titled French champion, member of the French para-archery team for many years, the Maugeois archer will discover the Paralympic atmosphere for the first time. In addition to the individual open compound event, he could be asked to compete in a mixed team with Julie Rigault-Chupin.

Between now and Paris, two major events are on its program: the European Championship in Rome (Italy), from May 20 to 26, and the tournament in Nove Mesto (Czech Republic), from June 22 to 30.
