Thibau Nys wins the 2nd stage of the Tour de Romandie and takes the overall lead

Thibau Nys (Lidl-Trek) came to spoil Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale’s party on Thursday during the second stage of the Tour du Romandie. The young 21-year-old Belgian took the day’s stage just ahead of the Italian Andrea Vendrame (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) and took the leader’s jersey.

Both setting off in today’s breakaway, they first saw their traveling companions fall one by one on the ascent of Mosses (12.8 km at 4.2%) before the peloton, led by the Groupama-FDJ, do not melt their lead at the foot of Marecottes (7.6 km at 7.5%).

Despite an attack from Simon Yates, followed by Lenny Martinez and Richard Carapaz, it was ultimately Lucas Plapp who made the junction with Vendrame and Nys a few hectometers from the finish and launched the sprint. More powerful, Nys reassembled it to win in front of Vendrame. The latter, who had already finished second on Tuesday, lacked the power to win in the final but confirmed his good form.

The third stage of the Tour de Romandie will be a 15.5 kilometer time trial on Friday around the village of Oron.
