There will be a new club in PlusLiga! Great comeback after 20 years

In the 2023/24 season, KGHM Cuprum Lubin competed for staying in the PlusLiga until the last rounds. Ultimately, the team from Lower Silesia took thirteenth place in the main round and will face GKS Katowice in two matches for this position. And although Enea Czarni Radom was relegated to the First League, as it turns out, the tenth season in PlusLiga will also be the last for Cuprum.

There will be a new club in PlusLiga! There is official confirmation. The famous brand returns after over 20 years

Cuprum Lubin has been playing in the top league since 2014. In the first four seasons, it was able to finish in the top eight of the league every time, at most in fifth place. Later, however, things were not so good – since 2018, the Lubin team was at best average in the league.

There has been talk for a long time that PlusLiga may leave Lubin for Gorzów Wielkopolski. This was officially confirmed on Saturday. Before the second league match between the local Stilon and CUK Angels Toruń, the president of Gorzów Wielkopolski, Jacek Wójcicki, and the president of the Polish Football Association and former Stilon player, Sebastian Świderski, announced that from the new season, Stilon will play in the elite again.

– PlusLiga will return to Gorzów after many years. I am very happy that the love for volleyball is still alive in my hometown, I believe that good sporting emotions await us in a beautiful facility such as Arena Gorzów – said Sebastian Świderski, quoted by the website of the Gorzów Wielkopolski City Hall.

Stilon (and GTPS) Gorzów is a club that has played ten seasons in the highest volleyball league in Poland, last playing in the 2002/23 competition. The greatest successes of the club from the Lubusz Voivodeship are the Polish Cup in 1997, the Polish runner-up title in 2000 and the bronze medal in 1999. It was then that the volleyball player of the Gorzów team was Sebastian Świderski, who later moved to Mostostal Azoty Kędzierzyn-Koźle.

Next season in the PlusLiga, the club will play in the Arena Gorzów, which can accommodate 5,000 fans, and PLN 1.2 million will go to its account from the city budget.
