100 days before the Olympic Games, the Mexican delegation is taking shape. With the countdown underway, the number of places for the national representative totals 67 of the 110 desired for the summer fair that opens the curtain on July 26 in Paris.

Diving, athletics and shooting are among the disciplines with the highest number of tickets, while others such as taekwondo have fallen short in their aspirations.

“It is an important season and there are still fairs in which tickets are distributed. Some cases are in direct competitions, such as canoeing, and in others by ranking. The inertia is positive and the spirit that great things can be achieved has spread,” said Bernardo de la Garza, head of mission of the national delegation.

The budget estimated by the Mexican Olympic Committee is 38 million pesos, which will be used for plane tickets, uniforms, insurance and medical materials. Meanwhile, the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sports (Conade) announced that the preparation of those selected for Paris, as well as their transfer, will cost approximately 450 million pesos.

Until yesterday, 37 women and 30 men had achieved their Olympic place, with the marathon runner Ci-tlali Moscote being the first to secure her participation. The last to get a ticket were riders Ricardo Peña and Victoria Velasco.

I think we are all going for the medals and I hope that more Mexicans join not only in my event, but in all the others. I hope all disciplines get more places, said Moscote.

Of the athletes who have been classified so far with a nominal place, 22 also competed in Tokyo 2020, five of them in Rio 2016 and four in London 2012. The participation of archer Alejandra Valencia, who is in her fourth Olympic cycle, stands out.

Mexico will have three historical representations. Rhythmic gymnastics in the ensemble modality obtained an unprecedented place in Paris 2024, after winning the silver medal at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games in the event of all around. Likewise, Alan Cleland achieved another unprecedented quota by being the first tricolor to qualify for the Olympics in the surfing discipline, after becoming champion at the ISA World Surfing Games 2023. In rowing, for the first time a qualification was achieved in the test of doble scull light weight.

Open water, boxing, canoe slalom, track and road cycling, diving, equestrian, fencing, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, associated wrestling, artistic swimming, modern pentathlon, weightlifting, taekwondo, archery, shooting sports, triathlon, rowing , surfing and sailing are the disciplines that so far have at least one representative for Paris.
