A diamond lent to the bow and arrows: the result, in Settimo Torinese, was a great success. That of the second Italian Arco Nudo Cup organized by the Varian Archers and the Fitarco Piemonte Committee on the Settimo Baseball Club field.
A beautiful event which, despite having only reached its second edition, will no longer be held because from next season the Naked Bow division, as recently decided by the Federal Council, will finally have access to the Italian outdoor Championships, as well as to the Regional Championships, with the therefore the assignment of class and absolute titles.
After the 72 qualifying arrows on Saturday, the preliminary phases were played on Sunday with rounds of 12 arrows. The best and best 32 at a distance of 50 meters were competing for the overall podium, while for the youth classes Boys and Students the best and best 8 were competing for medals, at 25 and 40 meters respectively. In this last case, in each preliminary round the athlete with the lowest score emerged, until the best 4 remained who, with the last 12 arrows, defined the podium. For the absolutes, however, in each round the last 4 left the scene and, after 6 elimination phases, the finalists were thus defined.
On Saturday morning, at the end of the awards ceremony for the men’s class titles, a real “cultural-sports exchange” took place between the captain of the Baseball Club Settimo Riccardo Cirillo and the national team’s archer, Giuseppe Seimandi. The standard bearer of the Fiamme Azzurre gave Cirillo a school bow and, after a brief explanation, had him shoot three arrows at the target: after an initial 7, the Settimo player then shot two 9s, receiving applause from those present . After this excellent archery debut, it was Giuseppe Seimandi’s turn to pick up the baseball bat: Cirillo gave him some technical instructions on the grip and the movement to perform and then, immediately, the practical test began. Even the blue player from Fitarco didn’t need too much time to learn and, after hitting the first two balls without making much progress, he immediately came close to a home run on the third attempt.
Also attending this nice scene were the young national team Williams Wong, the president of BC Settimo, Patrizia Sciarrilli and the youth players who, today, were involved in the last championship match against Fossano.
Class podiums – Simone Maestri (Arcieri Città della Paglia) takes third place among the Senior men with 616 points. In the women’s Masters Stefania Coppo (Arcieri del Monferrato) triumphs with 586 points, while Alessandra Tessari (Arc. Collegno) is third with 567 points.
Davide Morra (Arcieri Alpignano) finishes in second position among the male Juniors, with 567 points, and Claudio Aichino (Arcieri delle Alpi) is third with 564 points.
In the female Juniors, the home athlete Alessia Bussetto (Arcieri Varian) takes second position with 537 points.
Eliminatory rounds – Ferruccio Berti (Arcieri di Volpiano) triumphs in the men’s competition with 107 points, thus further embellishing his personal showcase of national titles and trophies, placing himself behind the other Piedmontese Giuseppe Seimandi (Fiamme Azzurre/Arcieri delle Alpi), 104 points , and the Italian Eric Esposito (103 points).
At the end of the preliminaries, an unprecedented unscheduled challenge was then held, which saw Ferruccio Berti himself on the firing line against the overall female winner, Rania Braccini (Arcieri Lucca). Repeating the previous score, 107-104, the Piedmontese also obtains this extra final victory and the Coppa Italia Arco Nudo 2022.
Thus the 2022 outdoor season ends with a great success also with regards to the organizational machine of the event itself with excellent teamwork between the Fitarco Piemonte Committee and the Settiese society of the Varian Archers, with the support obviously of the municipal administration, of the hospitality and complicity of the Bc Settimo company and the various sponsors.
